Hello my friends,
All right, let's just say I was just a tad freeked out. Remember yesterday when I talked about triplets and twins? Well get this one. The very first person to see Santa was a family of triplets! I mentioned to the mom my observations and she was really not surprised to my seeing a lot of twins, but was very happy to hear about the triplets. Are you impressed? Santa is.
Today was an emotional day! Santa's helpers like to get little tidbits of information for Santa while talking with people who are waiting in line. One of my helpers came up to me and whispered that when I talk to the next little girl, ask about "the bell." Well, I assumed that it was about the bell from Tom Hanks' movie "Santa Express." Santa could not have been more wrong!
The little girl was an 11 or 12 year old who sat on my knee and a woman sat on the floor right in front of us. (Now the person sitting on the floor is not too uncommon because they want to be close enough to hear what the kids are asking Santa for.) So, the girl asked how Santa was and I said that I was fine. Then I asked, "How's the bell?" Well, she looked at me with a big smile on her face and said, "You remember me!" and I said, "Sure." She said, "Do you remember what the bell was for?" And I honestly told her, "No, I do not remember." She said, "Well, can I tell you about it?" I said, "Sure."
"Last year when I came to see you, my mom was diagnosed with cancer and given three months to live. You gave me the bell to ring every time I was scared, or anytime I wanted to know that Santa would be listening or if I needed Santa's help."
"Did you ring the bell a lot?"
"Every day." (The person on the floor added that she would ring it at the middle of the night, at doctor's appointments, and any time she was scared or worried about her mom.)
Well, looking at the woman on the floor, she was starting to tear up. So I quickly looked at the girl and she said, "You know Santa, you really helped me." I said, "Well that's what Santa is for." She said, "You also helped my mom." I responded, "I did?" She said, "Yes, you helped my mom and you helped me. I prayed every time I rang the bell for my mom to get better and not be sick anymore." And then the little girl got a BIG smile on her face and looked at me right in the eyes and said, "Santa, that's my mom on the floor and she is now 100% cancer free! It's because of praying, ringing the bell, and asking for your help."
Well, needless to say, mom was crying...the girl was crying...and Santa was crying. I thanked her for telling me about her mom and told her that I was glad I could help. I asked her if she still had the bell and she said, "Yes, I have it hanging on my wall in my bedroom and I still ring it once in awhile when I get really scared." At that point, I gave her a big Santa hug, her mom a big Santa hug, then we all three had a big Santa hug!
It took Santa quite a few minutes to compose himself before seeing any more kids. Needless to say, moments like these are the reasons why people like me become Santas!
Have a great night!
Santa
